Technology Evaluation: Cite This For Me

Cite This For Me is an amazing Chrome Extension that automatically cites whatever website you are on! I have found this tool to be very helpful in the classroom and for my own studies.

Once you have installed the extension, you’ll notice icon on the top right with the other extensions. Here is how it looks on my computer.

Now for how it works. When you want to cite a page just click the icon.  You can see it finds all the pertinent information and adds it in. You can choose between different citation styles, and of course edit the citation yourself in case of error.

I use this extension with my class as we have been learning how to cite sources properly. My students love it. You can also add in the specific quote to pull which help students organize. This is a great productivity and tool, I hope it is as helpful to you as it was in my class.

  1. Cool! This would pair well with Diigo 😉 So it creates a bibliography for you, too, and keeps track of the citations? Does it seem like the citations it creates are pretty accurate?

  2. What!? Where has this been all my life? This is truly amazing. Downloading the extension right now. Thank you for sharing this.

  3. So I downloaded the extension and then tried it with an article I found on the library system. When it was still on the library site, I got this as the citation: Login – UAA/APU Consortium Library. (2018). Web.a.ebscohost.com.proxy.consortiumlibrary.org. Retrieved 21 April 2018, from http://web.a.ebscohost.com.proxy.consortiumlibrary.org/ehost/pdfviewer/pdfviewer?vid=4&sid=85fa268a-c389-47fa-901a-634019b57bdf%40sessionmgr4006

then I downloaded the article and clicked on the icon and nothing…so I am sure this is as easy to use as one would suppose. Otherwise it sounded really nice. I usually use Google Scholar and I often have to tweak the citation a little because it is not quite correct APA. Does it not like to give you citations on downloaded items?
